More Than I Can Bear

from Chance by Chris Szkup

about

I walk around the city in Melbourne for a living and the lyrics in this were starting to take shape and mostly happened before covid hit. It's funny how so much of it applied then and now. Back then it seemed like if we were smart enough to focus on some of the things that the situation brought to light with things that are taken for granted suddenly not possible, perhaps there could be some good that comes out of it. Of course, we weren't smart enough to do that. Quite the opposite.

lyrics

So quick to cut each other down, I can't get behind it
There's gotta be a better way?
Reports of misery and fear, I can't understand it
Why can't they find some good to say?

People out for themselves I see
Good luck if you are in need
Cause each day it's a more selfish society

We're in a world of nastiness and hate
Keyboard warriors, delusion great
Looking around all I see
Everyone wants something for free
If I only know one thing
I know it's not for me

Picking others up every chance when I see it
A little goes a long way
You never know what others are going through, don't assume it
Why not help them with their day?

Now that everything is gone
Will silliness go on?
Or will we take the hint, adapt and come back strong?

Cause there's a chance for us to heal
Take a good long look at everything for real
To help the less fortunate out
Remember what it's all about
Together lets have hope, erase the doubt

Doing the right thing
Despite the greed
So common it is the new norm
It's the only way I know
Who knows where we could go
If we take onboard the things that we are shown

Why can't we ever learn
Bridge after bridge we continue to burn
No matter what good you do
That one slip up it will define you

It's more than I can bear
Trying to still care

Doing as I would be done by
Right against the grain
Trying to never assume to know anyone's pain
